Meet our team and get to know a little bit about us. We are looking forward to getting to know you!
Reid Schmidt – Managing Partner, Lawyer, Trademark Agent, FEA
Reid is the managing partner of 20/20 Law Group. In addition to being a lawyer, Reid is also an accredited Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) and a Registered Trademark Agent in both Canada and the United States.
Reid focuses his practice on business law, intellectual property and real estate. Reid fully understands the needs of operating a small business as his practice began in 1995 when interest rates were high and law firms were looking to reduce their costs. This caused Reid to start his own law firm in the confines of his house and meeting clients at their offices, in coffee shops, and sometimes at his kitchen table. Since that time, Reid’s practice has grown and now includes land developers, technology companies, professional corporations, and many small business owners working in a multitude of industries. All of his clients look to Reid to assist them in the negotiation and drafting of contracts, corporation set-ups and reorganizations, the purchase and sale of businesses, corporate financing, and strategizing with respect to day-to-day business issues.
Reid is one of four practicing lawyers in Canada that has the Family Enterprise Advisor accreditation, which uniquely positions Reid in his ability to both advise families in they ownership and operation of their family’s enterprise as well as understand the dynamics and needs of their family. Rather than telling a family how to secure, operate, and transition their businesses, Reid’s approach is to generate the conversations to better understand the family. He is then able to establish the legal framework to formalize the strategy that a family adopts to advance the future initiatives of both the family and business.
Reid has extensive experience in applying for and registering trademarks in both Canada and the United States. As a Registered Trademark Agent, Reid works with the firm’s clients to both analyze the scope of the goods and services attributable to each client’s trademarks and to assist clients with their use of their trademarks for registration and marketing purposes.
When Reid is not assisting clients, he can be found on a hiking trail, on a soccer pitch, or travelling throughout the world.
Lisa Hutchinson – Lawyer, Trademark Agent
Lisa was born and raised in Calgary, and when she isn’t working, you’ll often find her hiking in the Rocky
Mountains with her husband and two daughters, or shuttling those daughters to and from their dance studio.
Before law school, Lisa studied computer science, which has left a lasting impression and love for those issues that we face as a digital and modern post-industrial society; communicating through social media, privacy considerations, and protecting digital property interests. Lisa enjoys volunteering with the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo when she can, and is thrilled to watch the evolution (and acceptance) of the “Geek Chic” culture.
In her law practice, Lisa helps both individuals and businesses with their legal needs. Lisa helps people to buy and sell land, buy and sell businesses, register trade-marks, create estate plans through wills, enduring powers of attorney, and personal directives, to recover money which is owed to them, and much more.
Lisa is honoured to be trusted by clients to help them to identify their values, achieve their goals, tell their stories, and preserve their legacies.

Anne Ferreira – Paralegal
Anne has been part of the 20/20 Law Group’s team for over 5 years. Many clients will have come across Anne, both over the phone and in person, while attending to matters such as signing their Wills, probating the estate of a loved one, reorganizing their corporate structure, filing their corporate annual returns, registering builders’ liens, and much, much more.
When Anne is not at work, you’ll find her at gymnastics or karate with her two kids, or flitting around the usual tasks of a social butterfly with a wide net of friends.
Anne’s approach to customer service is one tempered with compassion and humour. Once Anne knows your story, there isn’t much that will keep her from moving mountains to take care of you. This is especially helpful within our office, as Anne has become our “go to” office problem solver. She’s good at holding your hand because she practices by holding ours every day!
Amy Atfield – Paralegal
Amy is a busy mother of two, who is kept hopping with the dance, soccer, and acting schedules of her talented children, not to mention her work as a part-time Professional Investigator.
Before digging into her career as a paralegal, Amy attended Mount Royal University, where her favourite classes included art history ad philosophy.
In addition to being on-the-run with her kids, Amy enjoys photography, art, gardening, and travel, to both the United States and exotic islands. Amy’s favourite place thus far is Nashville, TN where there is always live music around!
Amy is a team player, which started way back in her recreational spots days (both soccer and baseball). Amy’s broad experience and background in Real Estate, Financing, Wills and Estates, Corporate, and Marketing allows her to assist clients here at 20/20 Law Group in many different ways.
Regan Schmidt – Communications Director/Administration
Regan was born and raised in Calgary, and yes to answer the obvious she is indeed Reid’s daughter. In her spare time she likes to travel, hike, and play rec sports when she can. Regan has travelled to many places including Italy, France, Spain, England, Mexico, Cost Rica, Cuba, and all over the United States; but her favourite place so far has been the national parks in Utah.
Before working at 20/20 Law Group Regan graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Cellular Molecular Microbiology. Regan has big plans for the future, and in the meantime has been very generous in sharing her time and abilities with us here at 20/20.
Regan is one of those odd ones out who gets excited to organize, which as you can imagine, comes in handy at a law office. She has also picked up a knack for web design and social media, and 20/20 is so lucky to have her guiding us into the modern age of “social media”, like all the cool kids are using.
